Defense Innovation Unit (DIU)

What is DIU?
The Defense Innovation Unit is a DoD organization that contracts with commercial companies to solve national security problems. Unlike traditional defense procurement, DIU uses Other Transaction (OT) authority under 10 U.S.C. § 4022, which means faster timelines, fewer compliance barriers, and a focus on proven commercial technology.
